Where I Started
At the beginning of Year 10, I was getting grade 4s in maths. Algebra felt like a foreign language and every exam seemed designed to trick me.
What Changed
Three things made the difference. First, I stopped trying to memorise methods and started understanding why they work. Second, I found a tutor who taught to the way I learn. Third, I did past papers, lots of them.
The Mock Results
By my Year 11 mocks I was hitting grade 7s and 8s consistently. In the final exam, I got a 9.
My Advice
- Understand the method, don't just memorise it.
- Do past papers under timed conditions, regularly.
- Get help early; don't wait until panic sets in.
